About Leading Hotels of the World

Independent hotels, proudly so.

The Leading Hotels of the World began in 1928, when 38 European hoteliers joined forces to court a new wave of wealthy American travellers. First known as The Luxury Hotels of Europe and Egypt, it opened membership worldwide and took its present name as it grew. Today it is the largest collection of independent luxury hotels, with more than 400 members in over 80 countries, from city palaces to island retreats, each family- or independently run and each with its own character. The company is owned by its member hotels and based in New York.

Leading Hotels of the World offers travel-adviser benefits at participating members. Booking this way attaches those benefits to your stay, and the adviser can steer you to the right independent hotel in places the big chains never reach. It suits travellers who prefer a hotel with a name and a personality, and want help finding it.
