Aleenta Resort & Spa Phuket – Phang Nga

There is a particular kind of quiet you only find at the far end of a long, empty beach, and it was the first thing I noticed at Aleenta Phuket. I had come to Natai for a few days of nothing more demanding than a private pool and a good book, and I left convinced this was one of the most restful corners of the Andaman coast. What follows is my honest review of Aleenta Phuket – Phang Nga Resort & Spa, drawn from a stay in the Grand Deluxe Pool Villa, taking in the villa itself, the dining, the spa and that gloriously unhurried stretch of sand.

Overview

Aleenta Phuket – Phang Nga Resort & Spa is a five-star, all-suite and all-villa retreat set on the sunset side of the Andaman Sea, along the pristine sweep of Natai Beach. The guiding idea here is “all suites, all private”: every accommodation is generous with space and screened from its neighbours, so the resort never feels crowded even when it is full. The smallest suites measure a roomy 80 square metres, while the largest oceanfront Grand Villas stretch to four bedrooms, which makes Aleenta as suited to a multi-generational family as it is to a couple in search of seclusion. For this review I stayed in the Grand Deluxe Pool Villa, and it proved an ideal base from which to explore everything the resort does well.

Location & Getting There

One of Aleenta’s quiet advantages is how easy it is to reach. The resort sits just 25 minutes north of Phuket International Airport, so your holiday begins almost as soon as you land, with none of the long, winding transfers that resorts further south of the island demand. It is worth knowing that Aleenta is not technically on Phuket island itself but a short drive north, in the neighbouring province of Phang Nga (not to be confused with the island of Koh Phangan, which only sounds similar). From here you are also within easy reach of Khao Lak, the Blue Canyon golf course and the dramatic limestone scenery of Phang Nga Bay.

Natai itself was one of the cleanest and least crowded beaches I saw during my time in the area. This is a peaceful, quiet stretch of coast, without bars, walking streets or a strip of restaurants, which is precisely its appeal; if you are after nightlife you would be better placed at Patong or in Phuket Town. A word on timing: I travelled in July, during the green or monsoon season that runs from July to October, and while it stayed sunny throughout my stay, the sea can bring high waves and strong currents that make swimming inadvisable at that time of year. For calmer waters and slightly cooler air, the classic window to visit is November to February.

The Grand Deluxe Pool Villa

The Grand Deluxe Pool Villa is, to my mind, one of the resort’s most rewarding rooms. At 141 square metres it offers a great deal of space for the price, with a shaded daybed and a large private swimming pool of its own. It is a room made for couples and for slow, extended stays; the pool and terrace are entirely enclosed, so there is complete privacy whether you want to sunbathe undisturbed or simply drift about in the water with nobody in sight.

Mornings here belong to the pool. With the terrace to yourself, the day starts slowly and on your own terms, whether that means a swim before breakfast or coffee taken with your feet in the water.

Inside, the villa is cool, bright and uncluttered, with the bedroom opening out towards the pool so that the line between indoors and out all but disappears.

The pool is the heart of the villa, framed by a sun deck and a shaded daybed that made an easy retreat from the midday heat.

The bathroom is a bright, spacious affair that borrows the same view, so that even a long soak comes with a glimpse of the pool beyond.

One practical note worth flagging: the Grand Deluxe Pool Villa does not face the beach directly, so reaching the main pool, restaurant and sand means a short walk across the road. Far from being a chore, I found it a small price for the added seclusion, and it is what keeps the villa so completely private.

Dining

Dining at Aleenta leans, thoughtfully, towards the fresh and the healthy, and much of the pleasure lies in where you eat as much as what. Over a few days I worked my way from a floating breakfast in my own pool to a candlelit dinner on the sand, and the kitchen kept things light, seasonal and quietly indulgent throughout.

Floating Breakfast

If you have never tried a floating breakfast, Aleenta is the place to start. A tray of pastries, fruit and coffee is set adrift on the villa’s private pool, and while it is unashamedly playful, it makes for a lovely, memorable morning for two. It became my favourite way to ease into the day.

Breakfast à la carte

Breakfast proper is served à la carte rather than from a buffet, which I much prefer; everything arrives freshly made to order, and you are welcome to keep ordering until you are content. The menu skews healthy and generous, with bircher muesli, poached eggs with salmon and avocado, and a super bowl of quinoa and chia seeds sitting alongside a good spread of omelettes and classic morning dishes. Whether taken indoors or out, it comes with a view of the sea.

From the Greek omelette to a fragrant Arabic shakshuka, granola and French toast, there was more than enough variety to justify a different order each morning.

Candlelight Dinner on the Beach

For an evening to remember, the resort will lay a candlelit dinner directly on the beach, under the stars. With Natai so quiet and private, it felt as though the whole shore had been set aside for us; I could genuinely have believed I had the beach to myself. It is an experience made for couples, and one of the loveliest evenings of my stay.

The menu carried the same fresh, healthy spirit as the rest of the resort, opening with a crisp Greek salad and a poke bowl brightened with salmon.

The mains were the highlight: a generous serving of pan-seared salmon with quinoa, and a fragrant green curry served, rather charmingly, inside a freshly cut coconut.

The Spa & Wellness

Wellness is clearly close to Aleenta’s heart, and it shows in everything from the healthy leaning of the menus to a full programme of massage, yoga and pilates. Sessions can be taken indoors or outside overlooking the sea, and a gentle seaview yoga session at the start of the day was the perfect complement to the resort’s unhurried pace.

The resort’s spa, Ayurah, is the setting for its treatments, and the welcome sets the tone from the moment you arrive.

I treated myself to a full-body massage, and it was every bit as restorative as I had hoped, unhurried and expertly done, finished with a soothing cup of hot ginger tea. It is the sort of experience I would recommend making time for at least once during a stay.

Beach & Main Pool

Across the road, the main pool is where you come for the sea view. It is edged with sun decks and a small shaded area for cooling off, and drinks and cocktails can be brought to you in the water; it made an easy, sociable counterpoint to the seclusion of the villa.

Then there is Natai Beach itself, wide, clean and blissfully uncrowded, and at its most beautiful in the evenings. On the sunset side of the Andaman, the light here is extraordinary; I was even lucky enough to catch a rainbow arc briefly over the resort before the sky turned to gold.

Verdict

Aleenta Phuket – Phang Nga Resort & Spa is, in the end, a place for people who want to slow down. If your idea of a holiday involves late nights and a lively strip of bars, this stretch of Natai will feel too quiet; but if you are seeking privacy, space and a beach that stays gloriously empty, it is hard to fault. The Grand Deluxe Pool Villa offers genuinely generous space and a private pool of your own, the dining is fresh and full of small delights, and the spa and wellness programme give the whole stay a restorative rhythm. Add a location just 25 minutes from the airport, and my verdict on Aleenta Phuket is a warm one: this is a serene, all-villa retreat that rewards anyone in search of a peaceful and private escape on the Andaman coast.
