About Marriott STARS & Luminous

From root beer stand to Ritz-Carlton.

Marriott began in 1927 as a nine-seat root beer stand in Washington, D.C., opened by J. Willard and Alice Marriott. The family business grew into the Hot Shoppes restaurant chain and entered hotels in 1957, and the 2016 acquisition of Starwood brought St. Regis, The Luxury Collection and W into the fold. Its luxury tier now spans The Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis, Bulgari, EDITION and JW Marriott, each with its own character, from butler-served grandeur to jewellery-house glamour. Across all its brands Marriott counts around 8,000 properties in 139 countries and territories.

STARS and Luminous are Marriott's own programmes for luxury travel advisers. A booking made through a participating adviser is flagged to the hotel, with the relevant programme's benefits attached, while you still earn Marriott Bonvoy points and nights. They suit loyal Bonvoy members who want the perks of an adviser booking without giving up their status.
