IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed the first Ruby hotel in Asia Pacific. It is a 184-room property in Bangkok’s Sathorn CBD, developed in partnership with Asset World Corp Public Company Limited (AWC), and it is due to open in 2027. IHG announced the signing on 29 October 2026. It is Ruby’s first move into the region since the brand joined the IHG portfolio.

The hotel will sit in the Silom–Sathorn district, the part of Bangkok that IHG places in the city’s central business district. For travellers who already know the capital, the address matters. It puts the hotel in a working, commercial quarter of the city, and a stay here would suit business travel as much as a few days of exploring. IHG has not yet given the exact site, an opening month or room rates. For now, this is an announcement to note and plan around.

Ruby is IHG’s premium urban lifestyle brand, and the Bangkok hotel is built around the brand’s familiar ideas: design, music and local storytelling. The design takes its cue from the tropical glamour of 1920s Siam. It is a specific reference point and a sensible one for a hotel meant to feel rooted in Bangkok, drawing on the city’s own past for its look. How that period mood will show up in the interiors has not yet been described in detail. The brief, at least, is a clear one.

Music shapes how the hotel is run. The signature features listed in the announcement include a 24/7 bar and live performances in the evenings. In the rooms, guests will find Marshall speakers, and guitars can be borrowed. For a guest who travels with their own playlist or likes to play, these are practical touches. They also tell you what kind of evening the hotel expects its guests to have: social, unhurried and centred on the bar.

The rooms themselves follow a focused set of priorities. IHG lists oversized beds, rainfall showers and self-service technology. That is a short list, and it shows what the brand puts first: a good night’s sleep, a good shower and an easy arrival and departure. Travellers who like a staffed welcome and a full set of in-room services should note the self-service approach before booking. Those who prefer to come and go on their own terms will find it suits them.

The signing also says something about where Ruby is heading. The brand has more than 40 hotels open and in the pipeline across Europe and the US, and it aims to reach more than 120 within the next decade. Bangkok is the first Asia Pacific address in that plan. It is worth watching as a sign of how the brand will adapt to new cities as it grows.

For IHG, Bangkok is already a crowded and well-developed market. Ruby will be the sixth IHG brand to open in the city, after Holiday Inn Express, Hotel Indigo, Staybridge Suites, Kimpton and Vignette Collection. Across Thailand, IHG has 42 hotels open and 41 more in the pipeline, covering 11 destinations and 11 brands. The partnership with AWC adds a local owner and developer to the project. That is a useful sign of commitment for a brand making its first entry into a new region.

We should be clear about where Ruby sits. It is a premium-tier brand, and IHG’s own description calls it urban lifestyle. It is outside the luxury tier that most of our coverage deals with. The Bangkok hotel is best read in those terms: a design-led, music-themed city base with well-judged rooms and a lively bar. Readers who want a full-service luxury stay in Bangkok will look elsewhere. Those who want a characterful, well-located room in the business district, with a bar that never closes, may find it a useful option once it opens. We will report the opening date and booking details when IHG confirms them.
