IHG Hotels & Resorts has opened InterContinental Taipei, a 347-room hotel at the heart of the Taipei Dome complex in Xinyi District, where selected rooms frame views of Taipei 101. Announced on 12 October 2026, the hotel is the brand’s flagship in Taiwan, and it opens with seven dining concepts, including restaurants led by chef Akira Back, and Club InterContinental.

The hotel was developed with Farglory Group, and it is the second InterContinental project the two partners have delivered together, following InterContinental Kaohsiung. That first collaboration opened in the southern port city in 2021; this second one brings the partnership to the capital and to one of its most closely watched districts. Xinyi is Taipei’s skyline address, and a hotel positioned within the Taipei Dome complex, with Taipei 101 in view from selected rooms, places guests squarely within it.

The room story begins at a generous size. Classic Rooms start from approximately 38 sq m, which gives the entry category real space for a city hotel. The more distinctive offer sits in the suites. These are residential in style, starting from approximately 76 sq m, and each comes with a full kitchen, a dining area and in-suite laundry. For a family visiting relatives, an executive in town for several weeks, or anyone who prefers to settle into a city at their own pace, that specification turns a hotel suite into something close to a serviced apartment, with the services of a full luxury hotel downstairs.

Dining is the other headline. The hotel has seven dining concepts, a considerable number for a single property, and among them are restaurants led by Akira Back. The chef has built an international following for his cooking, and his presence gives the hotel a culinary draw that should appeal to Taipei residents as much as to visitors. With seven concepts under one roof, guests can eat well for the length of a stay without leaving the building, while the wider Xinyi dining scene remains on the doorstep.

The facilities cover what a demanding traveller expects of a flagship. There is an indoor pool and a fitness centre, along with versatile event spaces and Club InterContinental. The club level is a practical asset for business travellers in particular, offering a quieter base within the hotel for working, meeting and recovering between appointments. The event spaces position the hotel for conferences, private celebrations and weddings in a district built around commerce and entertainment.

The design takes its cue from a guiding idea, ‘In Taipei, For Taipei’. The interiors draw on the city’s architecture, culture and collective memory, and the theme runs through the building, from the installation in the lobby to the musical motifs in the event spaces. The approach roots the hotel in its city and gives guests a sense of Taipei from the moment they arrive.

The timing carries its own significance. The opening coincides with the 80th anniversary of InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, and IHG has chosen to mark the year with a flagship in a market where the brand has grown steadily. InterContinental Kaohsiung arrived in 2021, InterContinental Taichung in 2024 and InterContinental New Taipei Hot Spring in 2025. Hualien Farglory Hotel, Vignette Collection has also recently been signed, extending the relationship with Farglory Group to the island’s east coast.

For travellers, that growing network makes Taiwan easier to explore at a consistent standard. A first visit might pair a stay in the capital with time in Taichung or Kaohsiung, or with a hot-spring retreat at New Taipei. InterContinental Taipei now anchors that itinerary in the city where most journeys begin, with suite space, a club lounge and a serious dining offer to build the stay around.
