Casa Verbena opens in Madrid as Outset Collection’s first European hotel

Hilton's Outset Collection makes its European debut with Casa Verbena Madrid, a 45-room hotel on Calle de Preciados with interiors by Lorenzo Castillo.

Hilton has opened Casa Verbena Madrid, Outset Collection by Hilton, a 45-room hotel on Calle de Preciados in central Madrid. It is the European debut of the Outset Collection brand, and it arrives as a small, design-led house with terrace rooms, a Madrileño breakfast and a guide to the city written from a local point of view.

The name sets the tone. A verbena is a traditional Spanish neighbourhood celebration, built around food, music and shared traditions, and the hotel borrows that spirit of the street party for its identity. The intent is a place that feels rooted in the neighbourhood around it, with the city’s own customs carried through the rooms, the art and the table.

The interiors are the work of Madrid-born designer Lorenzo Castillo. His scheme draws on costumbrismo, the Spanish artistic tradition of depicting everyday life and local customs, through a collection of costumbrismo-inspired artwork placed throughout the hotel. Around it, Castillo has layered warm materials, fluted glass, brass finishes and rich textures, a palette that reads as residential and distinctly Spanish. For travellers who choose a hotel as much for its sense of place as for its location, a Madrileño designer interpreting Madrileño life is the central appeal.

With 45 rooms, Casa Verbena sits at the intimate end of the scale for a hotel attached to a major group. Many of the rooms look out over Preciados street and its Madrid façades, so the city is framed from the window. The room category to note is the Preciados Room: these open onto terraces with rooftop views towards the Royal Palace. Anyone hoping for outdoor space and that view should book the Preciados Room category specifically when reserving.

Mornings are given particular attention. Guests start the day with a Madrileño breakfast served in the hotel’s emerald dining room, and the menu keeps to the classics of the city: churros, pan con tomate with Iberian ham, Spanish tortilla, locally roasted coffee and fresh juice. It is a breakfast that belongs to Madrid, and it sets up a day spent in the streets beyond the front door.

That day is where the hotel’s second distinctive feature comes in. ‘Our Madrid’ is a seasonal, illustrated insider’s guide created with a local artist, pointing guests towards the cafés, shops, bars and neighbourhood addresses that locals themselves favour. Because it is seasonal, the guide is designed to change through the year, which gives returning guests a reason to look at it afresh. For a first visit to the capital, or a return trip in search of something beyond the obvious, it is a useful starting point compiled by people who live there.

Casa Verbena also brings a practical advantage that independent boutique hotels cannot offer. Hilton Honors members can book through Hilton’s direct channels, earn and redeem Points, and access member benefits. For travellers who value a characterful, smaller hotel and also keep a loyalty balance, this is the combination that makes the opening worth noting: the individuality of a design hotel with the reach of a global programme behind it.

The opening also marks a wider move for the brand. Hilton says more than 100 Outset Collection hotels are under development globally, and Madrid is the collection’s first address in Europe. As the first of its kind on the continent, Casa Verbena offers an early look at how the brand intends to translate its approach to European cities, with each hotel shaped around its own neighbourhood and local talent.
