Ritz-Carlton Set for Nepal Debut in Three-Hotel Marriott Deal
Marriott and CG Hospitality Global have signed a multi-unit agreement bringing The Ritz-Carlton to Kathmandu for the first time, with a JW Marriott gateway to the Himalayan foothills.
Marriott International and CG Hospitality Global have signed a multi-unit agreement to develop three new properties across Nepal and India, among them the first Ritz-Carlton in Nepal — a notable step for two destinations that have long drawn discerning travellers but offered limited ultra-luxury accommodation.
The agreement, signed in the presence of Marriott International Chairman David Marriott and CG Corp Global Chairman Dr Binod K Chaudhary, covers The Ritz-Carlton, Kathmandu; The Westin Kathmandu; and JW Marriott Hotel Siliguri. Together the three hotels will add nearly 450 keys to Marriott’s portfolio when they are anticipated to open in 2031.
The headline addition is The Ritz-Carlton, Kathmandu, which marks the brand’s arrival in Nepal. The hotel is planned with 150 guest rooms, including 30 suites, and five dining venues, alongside The Ritz-Carlton Spa and a Ritz-Carlton Club. Some 1,100 square metres of event space is intended to serve both private gatherings and business travellers. Positioned five kilometres from Tribhuvan International Airport, it is conceived as an accessible base for those arriving in the Kathmandu Valley.
Alongside it, The Westin Kathmandu will offer a premium counterpoint, with 150 rooms and suites, a rooftop pool and the Heavenly Spa by Westin. The hotel is to carry the brand’s wellness focus through its Sleep Well, Eat Well and Move Well pillars, and will include 700 square metres of meeting space — a considered option for those combining travel with work in the Nepalese capital.
The third property looks across the border to India. JW Marriott Hotel Siliguri is positioned as a serene Himalayan-foothills retreat, with 150 rooms and suites, four dining venues, a Spa by JW and a generous 1,500 square metres of banquet space. Set ten kilometres from Bagdogra Airport, Siliguri functions as a gateway to Northeast India and the broader Himalayan region, making the hotel a practical starting point for onward travel as well as a destination in its own right.

The partnership behind the three hotels is well established. CG Hospitality Global, described as Nepal’s largest diversified multinational conglomerate, is Marriott’s regional development partner, and the two have moved quickly together: 75 total signings and 50 open Series by Marriott properties in under two years. The same collaboration is behind The Farm at San Benito, Autograph Collection, in the Philippines, and JW Marriott Residences at Dubai Islands.
For the traveller, the significance lies less in the scale of the agreement than in what it signals about access. The Kathmandu Valley and the Himalayan foothills have rewarded independent travellers for decades, yet branded ultra-luxury stays have been scarce. A Ritz-Carlton five kilometres from the capital’s main airport, paired with a Westin in the same city, gives visitors a recognised standard of service at both luxury and premium tiers — useful for those planning trekking itineraries, cultural visits or regional business that benefit from a dependable base on arrival and departure.
Siliguri’s role is worth noting separately. As a connecting point for Northeast India and the eastern Himalayas, it has functioned chiefly as a transit town rather than a stay. A JW Marriott there reframes it as somewhere to pause, with the spa, dining and banquet facilities suggesting a property designed for longer stays and gatherings as much as overnight stops. With an opening anticipated for 2031, these are hotels to plan around rather than book imminently — but for those who return to the region regularly, they are worth marking now.
