Which membership is right for you?

I hold Explorer Plus, and for the way I travel it is the clear pick: choose your properties carefully and the two complimentary Stay Plus nights alone can offset the entire annual fee. One of my nights a few years ago was at the Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour, where a standard room starts north of $300 a night — a single redemption that, on its own, paid for the membership.

Stay Plus nights can be reserved online up to a year ahead and are fully refundable up to one day before arrival, so there is no risk in booking early. A few things worth knowing: the complimentary night applies to a standard room and is not offered at every Accor hotel in the region; breakfast is not included on a Stay Plus booking; and many properties will let you upgrade to a higher category for a modest fee, sometimes even at check-in.

My stay at Pullman Phuket Arcadia

To show how a redemption plays out in practice, here is a recent Stay Plus night at the Pullman Phuket Arcadia on Naithon Beach. I booked a Grand Deluxe room — which can run as high as $227 a night in season — for a $16 upgrade fee from the complimentary standard Deluxe. At Platinum level, the welcome extends further: complimentary hors d’oeuvre and two glasses of Moët & Chandon champagne — the kind of gesture that makes the tier feel worthwhile beyond the numbers.

Half-price afternoon tea and dining

The dining discount is where the membership quietly earns its keep. You can save up to 50% dining in — valid for two guests, with the exact rate varying by party size, so confirm when you book. At VERO, the resort’s Italian restaurant, your food bill is effectively halved (the discount is 50% on food and 15% on beverages). For something more relaxed, the C Bar lobby lounge and the “Play Tea” afternoon tea offer one of the finest sea-view settings for afternoon tea in Phuket — with your 15% member discount applied.

Is Accor Plus worth it?

For a traveller who spends time in Asia-Pacific and books with any foresight, the answer is a comfortable yes. As the numbers above show, Explorer Plus members can recover the entire annual fee through the two Stay Plus nights alone — and everything after that, from up to 50% off dining to members-only Red Hot Rooms, is genuine saving on top.
