Kimpton Quinta da Marinha Opens on Portugal’s Cascais Coast

Kimpton has opened Quinta da Marinha, a 194-room resort that received its first guests on 5 August 2026 and gives the brand its second address in Portugal. The site is a strong one: the ground between Sintra-Cascais Natural Park and the Atlantic Ocean, minutes from Cascais town and a short run west of Lisbon.

That position does a great deal of the work. The natural park supplies forest, walking country and a protected backdrop that will not be built over; the ocean supplies the light, the weather and Guincho Beach, whose surf breaks are among the best known on this coast. Cascais itself is close enough for dinner in town or a morning in the marina, and Lisbon sits within comfortable reach for arrivals, departures and a day in the city. Guests therefore have a resort that functions as a base for the whole Estoril coast.

The interiors follow the setting closely. Organic materials, warm neutral tones and Portuguese craftsmanship run through the public rooms and bedrooms, a palette drawn from the park and the dunes beyond it. Kimpton’s design language has always leaned personal and residential, and here that instinct has been pointed at local making — the sort of detail that reads quietly in photographs and rather better in person.

Accommodation totals 194 rooms: 180 guest rooms, eight suites and six signature suites. Views divide three ways — over the forest, over the resort’s 18-hole golf course, or out to the Atlantic coastline — and the distinction is worth raising at the time of booking, since the three deliver quite different stays. Forest rooms give the calm of the park; the golf outlook is the classic resort view; the ocean rooms are the ones to ask about first for a short break.

Golf is the anchor. The championship 18-hole course was designed by Robert Trent Jones, a name that carries weight with anyone who plans travel around a card, and its presence on the property means play begins a few minutes from the room. Beyond the course there are indoor and outdoor pools, tennis courts and padel courts — padel now being close to compulsory on the Portuguese coast. Surfing at Guincho Beach and hiking in the natural park fill in the days that are meant to be spent outdoors.

The Natur Spa handles the other half of the equation, with holistic rituals delivered across seven treatment rooms alongside a jacuzzi and sauna. Seven rooms is a serious count for a property of this size, and it signals that treatments are intended as a daily fixture of a stay, bookable at short notice by couples and groups travelling together.

Two venues carry the food and drink. FICA! is the cocktail and wine bar, the room for the hour before dinner and the hour after it. Ao Ponto is the grill, built around premium meats and local seafood — a straightforward proposition on a coast where the fish arrives within the hour and the kitchen’s job is largely to stay out of the way. An outdoor pool bar covers the long afternoons.

Kimpton’s house rituals travel intact. Complimentary Kimpton Kickstart coffee and tea open the morning, the evening Kimpton Social Hour gathers guests before dinner, and in-room yoga mats are standard. Pets stay at no extra charge, a policy the brand applies consistently and one that matters to anyone driving down from northern Europe with a dog in the back.

For IHG, the opening thickens a portfolio that already has weight in Portugal: Quinta da Marinha joins the group’s luxury and lifestyle collection alongside its sister property, Onyria Marinha Cascais, Vignette Collection. For the traveller, the practical reading is simple. This is a full-scale resort with golf, spa, courts, pools and two restaurants on a protected coastline half an hour from a capital city — a property to build the trip around, and one that will book up quickly through the Atlantic summer.
